Be part of the progress. Make a difference. Love where you live.
Main Street Lansing thrives because of people like you — neighbors, business owners, students, retirees, and community members who care about the heart of our town. Whether you're passionate about local history, enjoy organizing events, or simply want to lend a helping hand, there's a place for you on our team.
The Promotion Committee seeks to advertise the fantastic businesses and services that can only be found in Lansing, as well as showcase the unique character of our downtown district. The Promotions Committee strives to bring more money to Lansing through improved sales and commerce. They coordinate regular promotions and community events with the goal of bringing people to Lansing. Some of their well-known promotions include Taste of Lansing, Downtown Trick-or-Treating, and Main Street Madness — an annual punch card promotion that runs during the weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday.
The Organization Committee works to sustain Main Street Lansing’s preservation and development efforts for the future. This committee makes connections with business owners, entrepreneurs, experts, board members, and future volunteers in order to strengthen the efforts of Main Street Lansing. They engage the community in Main Street Lansing actions through newsletters and social media updates, and they take a leading role in securing funding for the program.
The Design Committee works with private building owners to help improve their buildings, leveraging grant opportunities and technical assistance to help increase the appeal of Downtown Lansing. Such work creates new upper-story living spaces and opens buildings to new businesses. Through Main Street Iowa, the Design Committee has access to the exclusive Challenge Grant, which is a dollar-for-dollar matching grant designed to help renovate downtown buildings. Additionally, the Design Committee works on smaller improvements; they are responsible for planting and watering flowers on Main Street, cleaning up litter, and removing graffiti.
The Economic Vitality Committee provides professional business services to enhance the Lansing business community. The Economic Vitality Committee strives to retain and expand our current businesses while also recruiting new ones; to that end, they offer free and low-cost assistance to help businesses thrive, including an analysis of a business’s strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. The Economic Vitality Committee also regularly engages in market analyses and offers workshops to train business owners on a variety of topics.
Jeramie & Kristin Wheeler
We’re proud to honor you as our 2025 Volunteers of the Year! Congratulations, Jeramie and Kristin! Jeramie and Kristin came to Lansing with big hearts and an even bigger love for the town that welcomed them. Since arriving, they’ve become unstoppable volunteers—beautifying downtown, joining committees, cooking for events, recruiting others, and generously giving their time, energy, and support. Their passion and dedication truly embody the spirit of Main Street Lansing.
Steve Murray is a champion of Main Street Lansing. He is our “on-call” volunteer and faces every task with positivity. He’s helped fill planter boxes, take down holiday decorations, install public art, and led a RAGBRAI committee to name just a few. His most recent undertaking is leading the cause to raise $300,000 to light the new Black Hawk Bridge. No task is too big - we are grateful for his leadership and community spirit!
