    Who We Are:

    • An active non-profit organization based in Lansing, IA, dedicated to supporting, growing, and enhancing the historic Main Street district.
    • Part of the Main Street America and Main Street Iowa network, emphasizing the importance of a vibrant Main Street for community health and sustainability.

    Leadership:

    • Founded in 2012.
    • Executive Director - Jackie Cooper
    • Led and community-driven by our volunteer Board of Directors (13 members) and dedicated volunteers serving on our four committees: Promotions, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Design.

    Main Street Lansing is one of 55 accredited Main Street programs in Iowa.

    At Main Street Lansing, our mission is to sustain, revitalize, and enhance the charm of our historic Main Street district while embracing new opportunities to bring fresh energy and innovation to our community. Guided by the Main Street Approach, we work to ensure a thriving and resilient downtown that serves as a hub of economic activity and community connection.

    A Roadmap for Our Community

    The Main Street Approach is centered on Transformation Strategies, which outline a focused and deliberate path to strengthening and revitalizing Lansing’s downtown economy. These strategies are brought to life through comprehensive work in four key areas:

    Economic Vitality

    Economic Vitality: Supporting local businesses, attracting entrepreneurs, catalyzing property development, and leveraging tools to create a dynamic and supportive environment for economic growth.

    Organization

    Organization: Building a strong foundation for sustainable growth by fostering partnerships, engaging the community, and securing resources to sustain long-term revitalization efforts.

    Promotions

    Promotion: Highlighting Lansing’s downtown as the vibrant heart of the community through events, campaigns, and storytelling that attract visitors and showcase its unique personality.

    Design

    Design: Enhancing the physical and visual appeal of the district by preserving its historic character while integrating new, innovative features that make it welcoming and distinctive.

    Through these efforts, we not only preserve Lansing’s heritage but also position it for a bright future, blending tradition with fresh ideas and opportunities. Join us in creating a downtown that thrives today and for generations to come!

    • City of Lansing

    The City of Lansing is the town's government, responsible for managing municipal services and infrastructure. Their responsibilities include:


    • Providing essential public services such as water, sewer, and sanitation.
    • Maintaining public infrastructure, including streets, parks, and public spaces.
    • Overseeing city planning, zoning, and development regulations.
    • Ensuring public safety through police, fire, and emergency services.
    • Representing residents and managing local government operations.

    While we work closely with the City of Lansing on projects that benefit the community, our roles and areas of focus are distinct. Together, we contribute to making Lansing a great place to live, work, and visit!
